In 1997 Dublin Bus took delivery of 40 Volvo OLY-4593 Olympians (RV326-385) bodied by Alexander of Belfast and have Volvo D10A-245 engines and VoithD863.3/ZF4HP500 fully automatic transmission with integral retarder. These Volvo Olympians differ from the earlier RA class Volvo Olympians because the RV class have Volvo engines where as the RA class have Cummins engines but also the RV class has the Volvo bar and badge and the RA class don't. In 1998 RV386-445 were delivered and 1999 RV446-640 were delivered.
RV 327 was the last bus to be delivered to Dublin bus in the two-tone green livery. All other deliveries of the RV class have been in Cityswift livery or the new blue&cream fleet livery. Although RV330 & RV496 have been painted in the green&cream tours livery for use on the Coastal Tours. Both have a wheelchair lift in the centre doors and space for wheelchairs behind the door.
A number of the RV class have been painted in the Rt 90 Railink livery operating between Connolly and Heuston Stations.
RV 628&RV629 were loaned to Bus Eireann for evaluation on commuter routes from Dublin but have been returned.
