In 1968 the Department of Education started funding CIÉ to build schoolbuses. CIÉ chose the Beford SB5. Between 1968 and 1979 800 of these were built and bodied by CIÉ, Duffy-McArdle, Murphy's and VanHool McArdle. They were painted in a special livery of yellow and white. All have been withdrawn
