D/DF Class
Above: DF795, the sole remaining Van Hool Atlantean in service with CIÉ for use on Cork City Tour, is seen here in the Blarney Woolen Mills on 17 July 2004.
Between 1966 and 1977 CIÉ built
up a fleet of 840 Leyland Atlanteans with their own bodywork (D1-602) commonly
known as the Standard D's or VanHool bodywork (D603-840). The last of the class were
withdrawn in 1996. For full details of the class and pictures of them when they
were in service go to the Irish Buses of
Yesteryear
section. Two are still in service as
sightseeing tours in Cork and Limerick and these are DF795 and DF454 is
in Limerick.
